The influence of African rhythms on Brazilian music is quite significant. Much of this influence came through religious practices, as well as traditional and recreational events. The primary musical instrument used is the atabaque, commonly known as the conga.

Brazilian Dance Classes

This class is a combination of a variety of Brazilian dances all in one session.
There is a dance that goes along with capoeira, called the Maculelê. Capoeira is a dance that became a fight, and the Maculelê is a fight that became a dance. This dance, like capoeira, is performed by two people, each holding two wooden sticks. The sticks simulate the fight while also helping to match the rhythms.
