Capoeira Workshop Japan

Day: Sunday March 14

Time: 12:30 pm Tokyo

Capoeira is an exciting combination of martial arts, music, dance and gymnastics. Developed by African slaves in Brazil centuries ago, today, capoeira is practiced by adults and children worldwide.

Capoeira Musical instruments include:

  • The berimbau, a bowed percussion instrument.
  • The pandeiro, similar to a tambourine.
  • The agogô, a double cowbell.
  • The atabaque, a conga-like drum.

Students will learn to perform the Capoeira Narahari system’s basic movements to acquire their respective belts and become skilled at recognizing and playing various rhythms on traditional percussive instruments that accompany the Capoeira game, or “jôgo”.

This class will give students a basic knowledge of the history of capoeira, its origins within African slave communities in Brazil, and the Capoeira Narahari System developed by Mestre Beiçola.
